ROAD TRIP TO SYDNEY!
Its our once a year(attempt to) girls trip! This year, we decided to take a road trip from Gold Coast to Sydney!
Previously we had went to Phuket, Melbourne, Gold Coast and Japan.
As usual, not all the girls can make it for the trip due to busy schedules in the adult working world so there’s only 4 of us this time round.
Before we start, here are some tips:
- We went to GC before hence only planned 1 day there cause one of us never been here before. You may feel free to add in 2-3 more days in GC.
- Try to schedule more stops in between from GC > SYD. If you will like to save time between the travel, then just book domestic flights to and fro.
- Make you have at least 2 drivers with you for the trip unless you’re prepared for extremely long and tiring drive.
- Do not go to the Taronga Zoo in Winter as most animals will be hibernating away in their cage. So practically there is nothing to see.
Gathered at the airport for dinner before jetting off as its a night flight- so that we can reach there in the morning. First thing to collect our HERTz rental car and settle our wifi once we landed in Gold Coast.
We decided to just head directly to Dreamworld for the day before checking into our Airbnb at night cause we were afraid of the long queues by the time we checked in and head there.
Our 2nd time there but, all the rides were still as fun! A must- THE CLAW &…. Rainbow ice cream! Yes! In the cold!
Checked out early in the morning and off to our fav breakfast place in GC! PANCAKES PARADISE!
Came here the last time and still loving it! For the address, you may find it in the detailed itinerary at the end of this post.
Our plan after breakfast was actually to drive straight to Sydney with a few stops in between but one of us suggested dropping by GC factory outlet shopping area for awhile first and guess what? WE STAYED THERE FOR HOURS!
Wasn’t surprising actually… Girls + Shopping = Havoc.
Ended up, we left only around 2-3pm and our entire road trip got delayed like mad. It was already dark by the time we reached the first stop.
We had to give exploring Port Macquarie a miss and settled our dinner with quick bites from one of the petrol kiosks along the way cause its already close to 10pm+ when we reached PM.
By the time we checked into our 1N hotel… it was alr 11pm. Lesson learnt: JUST STICK TO YOUR GOD DAMN ITINERARY.
Checked out of our PM hotel feeling pretty refreshed cause all of us K.O after last night. The rushing from stops to stops to make it for the lost time and out on the road for the entire day…
Off we left PM and its to Port Stephen next!! Also, what none other than the activity that is not to be missed in Port Stephen- QUAD BIKING + SAND BOARDING!
Note that we pre-book this activity before our trip and there is time slot allocated so do not be late.
Drove all the way to Sydney after that and omg, I love our Airbnb! Its in a condo and the apartment is sooo nice!
Met up with Yuyu’s cousins after that as they are based in Sydney. They brought us to this dinner place call The Fish Shop which served pretty good food!
What else but their supermarket after that to stock up for the rest of our stay!
Its sightseeing day in Sydney!
Woke up early in the morning and went to the Sydney Fish Market for breakfast! Fresh seafood everywhere! Mmmm, one of the best breakfast we had this trip!
After that, explored around the city and we went to the Sydney Eye Tower for a full view of the place. Dropped by some Cathedral too and even though none of us belong to the religion…. the place is SO beautiful!
We had brunch at the cafe(John Montagu) that Yuyu’s cousins own after that. Yess, they opened their own cafe! And oh boy, the food were good!
Will recommend everyone to come here for brunch if you can. The beef sandwich is SO delicious! Apparently, heard that this cafe is pretty famous in Sydney..
Off to Mrs Macquarie’s Chair where we had a clear view of Sydney Harbour and Sydney Bridge. The cousins brought us to a place for dessert after that and then its Korean Food at Chinatown for dinner.
View from Mrs Macquarie’s Chair.
Back to our Airbnb after that.
Nothing planned for today cause its… SKYDIVING DAY!!!
All of us were like mentally preparing ourselves for this day, especially last night we were too excited to sleep. Its all our first time doing this. As much as we were nervous, we also cant wait for it!
Took a shuttle bus from a hotel to the venue and after all the safety briefings and gearing up, we were ready to go!
They had another ride to fetch us to the place where we board the “plane”.
The journey up the plane is the worst man its where you really start feeling it and all the jittery and cold feet started coming in. But, once you are on the plane its too late for regrets cause the only way to get off the plane is to jump off it! Haha
Watch entire skydive journey below:
The view is magnificent! We jumped over the Wollongong beach.
We booked our skydive here: https://www.skydive.com.au/sydney-wollongong/ and it cost about sgd600 in total for video + photos!
The entire skydive took about 1/2 day and we went shopping after that + grocery shopping as we decided to prepare our own dinner for the night since our apartment had a kitchen! Anyway, in Australia, its much cheaper to cook your own dinner then to eat out.
Each of us took turns to prepare a dish. Love homemade dinner like this..
Off to the Crown Casino after that.
Its either the skydive experience took a toll on me or the change in the weather (with our Airbnb being warm as a toaster and once we stepped out of our apartment its freezing as well) but I was down with heat rash + fever the entire day.
Was so sick that I couldnt really enjoy the day.. And its sucha pity cause we had this day filled with activities!
We went to The Grounds of Alexandria for brunch and the place is SO beautiful! But, I didnt had much appetite I cant even finish 1/4 of my food. The girls were sweet though, they got me a rainbow rose from the market there to cheer me up. Awww.
Will definitely be back here again!
Went to the Taronga Zoo after that. We had to take a ferry over from a pier but sadly, I was too sick to enjoy the views on the ferry and I was sleeping in it the entire time.
The Zoo was not bad but cause we were there during the winter, most of the animals were actually away hibernating in their cages so its like seeing empty dens every now and then.
Back to the city after that and its Korean BBQ for dinner again.
Its the last day in Sydney and we decided to just let it be a free and easy day (initial plan is to drive to the Blue Mountains) but we decided to forgo it due to time constraint.
Went to the Vaucluse House for a tour and to relax and have high tea by the cafe there.
After that, its to Bondi Beach and Watson Bay to look around. Final shopping in Sydney after that before we call it a day.
Anddddd thats the end of our Sydney trip! It was a great trip although I fell sick towards the end of the trip.
As usual, you can download the detailed itinerary here:
