Bangkok Jam
Went on a clique trip with the bf and his friends for the July babies birthday. Although its my countless time(at least once to twice a year) to BKK, its some of their first time there so I had done up the itinerary based on a first trip to BKK!
Likewise, you can download detailed itinerary at the end of this post.
*Note that mode of transport are mainly uber, cab and tuk tuk cause its dirt cheap so exact directions will be missing from this itinerary.
Before we start, here are some tips:
- Head to Chatuchak early in the morn like 8am-9am if you want to avoid the afternoon sun(SUPER DUPER HOT).
- If one of those Tuktuks offer you at an expectionally cheap price, please take note that 90% of the case they will bring you to some souvenir shops to walk around as they earn comms for that. IF you are not comfortable, do not take as it had happened to me that they dropped us in the middle of nowhere cuz we refused to go.
- Just take uber around cause the cost can be cheaper than the Tuktuks and much safer.. but note that waiting time may be longer than expected due to the jam in bkk. If it says 10mins, expect to wait for 15-20mins no kidding. If not, BTS is actually fine too if you have plenty time to spare.
Day 01
Checked into Spenza Hotel after we arrived (recommend this hotel cause its walkable distance to Pratunam although we uber around most of the trip). If not, any other hotels near Pratunam area is fine too.
What else but shopping at Platinum Mall first for the girls while the guys headed to Amari Watergate- Paul’s Fashion @ Level 2 to tailor made their shirts, pants and blazers.
Headed to Asiatique at night. Note that this is a hipster place and shopping are more on the expensive side. So dont expect any cheap stuff there. But, a nice place to just chill around at their bars and also, get unique stuff.
We had lunch at the famous Soi 15 wanton mee as its only about 10mins walk from our hotel! Its located along Petchaburi Soi 15 so you just need to walk into that lane and you will spot it somewhere along the road!
Its quite easy to spot with their huge signs everywhere stating they do not have a branch in Singapore lol.
Back to hotel after that anddddd, MASSAGE TIME! Everyone is super looking forward to this. Normally, I will go to a row of massage palours near Baiyoke Sky Hotel (somewhere right at the end of Pratunam) and the price ranges are 200-250baht per hour. Thats like sgd$10 only!!
This time round, we tried somewhere different cause its much nearer to our hotel and I would have to say, they are pretty good too! They are just located at the start of the lane where our hotel were at.
Foot Haven Massage: 2/4, 2/4 Phetchaburi Rd, Thanon Phaya Thai, Ratchathewi, Bangkok 10400, Thailand
Kindly note that this is a personal preference as I’ve read the reviews some of them have very bad experience. And, this is slightly more ex than those at Pratunam, its 250baht.
Day 02
Off to Chatuchak cause its the weekends! Yes, they only open from Friday-Sunday. Even though the weather can really be a killer, I will recommend those of you who have not been to BKK to just go there and experience the place.
Shopping are pretty cheap, you can find unique home stuff if you really explore the entire place and food are good too.
The duck noodles and coconut ice-cream is a MUST!
As mentioned, you can head there around 8-9am like us to avoid the hot sun. We left the place before 12pm and it gets really really hot by then. Oh, and please dress LIGHT.
To Little Zoo cafe after that.
There is actually one outlet at Siam Square too, with the same kind of animals but since we were already at Chatuchak, we went to the original outlet which is further away from town. Also, initially there wasnt foxes at the Siam Square outlet but now they have them too.
*Note that you will have to spend money on their food and drinks(one set per person) if you wish to play with the animals.
Union Mall for shopping after play time. Its something like Far East Plaza in Singapore and the prices are much cheaper than Platinum Mall. Actually, CTC is in the middle of Little Zoo and Union Mall(nearer to CTC) but since we are heading back to our hotel area after that, the route will be CTC > Little Zoo > Union Mall > Pratnum area.
If you are heading to the original Little Zoo, keep a lookout for this:
The place is located somewhere behind this.
Back to the hotel to rest for awhile after that and off to Talad Neon! You can just grab dinner there.
Day 03
On Lok Yun for breakfast! Its my fav to-go place for breakfast. Its those traditional coffeeshop with very simple breakfast like kaya toast, tea and egg. Think something like Chin Mee Chin Confectionary in Singapore.
The kaya are shiokkkkkk! But, dont expect too much from this place except nice kaya and cheap prices.
After breakfast, off to True Love Cafe(we took a uber there) and the huskies are sooo cute! However, not very advisable for little kids cause even though the dogs are mainly tamed and trained, but it do happened during our time there that a dog jumped at a little kid(thank god nothing happened) cause the kid was nonstop hitting it.
So parents, if you will like to bring your kids there, PLEASE make sure your kid never leave your sight at one moment.
Siam Square for shopping next! We were too full to have Somtam for lunch but if you like thai food, you should try it!
Walked around Siam Paragon (cause its just opposite Siam Square) and Big C(their supermarket, you can get most of the goodies and packets of thai milk tea there) and Si Mian Fo(four-faced buddha).
Dessert at After You (either at Siam Paragon or the stand-alone outlet at Siam Square). The mille crepe and shibuya toast are a must!
Talad Rod Fai Ratchada (Train market) in the night. Note there are 2 Talad Rod Fai a.k.a Train Market and Ratchada one is the nearest to the town area. Its located right behind The Esplanade Mall so you can just uber/tuk tuk to there, cross over to the back of the mall and follow the crowd. You will hear music loudly too so the place is pretty easy to spot.
I love it there! The shopping, the food and the ambience. You can chill and drink at a bar there too! Back to our hotel nearby massage before calling it a night.
Realized we didnt take any photos there so here is how it looks like: http://www.bangkok.com/magazine/rot-fai-market-ratchada.htm
Day 04
Was quite looking forward to this day cause… its brunch @ The Commons (somewhere I’ve been wanting to try) and MUAY THAI!
Yessss, we booked a local gym(through a friend) and have some authentic Muay Thai session! But, I will have to warn you.. definitely not for the weak hearted cause the training was crazy I tell you. The warm-up itself nearly killed me.
Brunch at Roast in The Commons before the crazy exercise.
Overall, its a pretty fun experience and now I know Muay Thai is not easy at all! A few of us got injured by not kicking and boxing correctly too. So please becareful if you want to give it a try too! -details in itinerary-
Anyway if you are interested, the place is call Attachai Gym. You can contact them via FB or something to book a slot. *Pre-booking is a must.
Chinatown T&K seafood for dinner at night. *There are 2 competitor stores side by side, I always go to the green shirt one.
After dinner, can pop by Nam Seng (right beside T&K) for some birdnest too! You can just get the 200baht one its good enough. If not, you can also buy back to the hotel, store it in the fridge and have it for breakfast the next day! ITS GOOD.
Day 05
Some local chicken rice for breakfast, last min shopping and its back to SG. And thats the end of our BKK trip! If you have more time, you can try places like cabbage & condoms(heard the place is pretty unique and the food is not bad there).
You can find the location of the chicken rice stall in the itinerary below.
